Trekking and Hiking
The landscape and natural value of the lands of Matilda make them a great place for lovers of trekking and nature, , who will be able to walk among beautiful trails from L’Angolo di Verlano and fully enjoy the rich nature of the Apennines of Reggio.
For hikers, the most important path is the path of Matilda, a tour designed to exploit the territory and to allow tourists to enjoy at once the environmental, natural and historic richness of the territory.
The path unfolds north to south, it’s not difficult and it follows an ancient route from the mouth of the river Enza to the Medieval Castles of Canossa and Rossena and reaches the Forbici pass. This route allows you to discover both the ancient communication roads of  Matildic lands and the ancient defensive system, made of fortresses and castles, in addition to the natural beauty of a land still pure and hardly touched by urbanization.
Here are the four stages of the path of Matilda:
1. Ciano d’Enza, Rossena, Canossa, Bergogno, Monchio dei Ferri, Castle of Sarzano, Casina (6 hours).
2. Casina, Migliara, Branciglia, Badia di Marola, rat Cigarello, Riana, Carpineti, Castello, S. Caterina, Colombaia, Stiano, Manno, Toano (8 hours).
3. Toano, Frale, Sources of Quara, Cadignano, Campolungo, Case Rossi, Morsiano, Mulino, Fontanini, Gazzano (6 hours).
4. Gazzano, Case Stefani, I prati, Civago, Case del Dolo, Passo  delle Forbici (4.30 hours).
Other beautiful hiking trails are: Rosano-Mulino di Chichino, Spallanzani Trail, Duchy Trail, ringtrail Sole-Vetto d’Enza, Ferr Ferrata degli alpini, Mount Ventasso and Lago Calamone.
